$37M wasted
$36.8M of your taxes went to SBS while it missed its core multicultural audience target
SBS received $230 million of taxpayer funding in 2025-26 but fell 16% short of its key performance target — reaching only 2.1 million multicultural Australians weekly instead of the 2.5 million target. That 16% shortfall on a $230 million budget means roughly $36.8 million of your money funded a service that didn't deliver on its primary reason for existing. If a private business missed its core customer target by that margin, heads would roll.
