Performance Targets vs Actuals
Target
95% of NDIS plans approved within 50 days
Actual

PBS 1 Oct 2024
$12.5B wasted
$12.5B in NDIS plans delivered late as agency misses timeliness target by 36%
The NDIA's own target is to approve 95% of NDIS plans within 50 days, but in 2023–24 it managed just 61% — a 35.8 percentage point gap. With a $35 billion annual budget, that shortfall means roughly $12.5 billion worth of plans were processed outside acceptable timeframes, leaving Australians with disabilities waiting longer for the support your taxes are meant to deliver.

$3.3B wasted
$3.26B in suspected NDIS fraud slipping through the cracks undetected
The ANAO found the NDIA detected only $142 million out of an estimated $3.4 billion in suspicious provider claims — meaning 96% of suspected dodgy claims went undetected. Your taxes fund a $35.4 billion scheme that lacked even basic automated controls to catch common fraud patterns. That's $3.26 billion in potentially fraudulent claims that nobody at the agency was picking up.
