$240M wasted
$240M in question as Industry dept misses key performance targets by 10%
The Department of Industry, Science and Resources pulled in $2.4 billion of your taxes in 2025-26 but fell short on its own performance benchmarks by 10% across the board. Only 81% of R&D grants were acquitted on time instead of the 90% target, the industry engagement index came in at 68 instead of 75, and barely a third of critical minerals projects hit their milestones. That 10% shortfall on a $2.4 billion budget means at least $240 million of your money didn't deliver the outcomes taxpayers were promised.
